Big news…I’m building a home! That’s right 🙂 Later this year, I’ll be moving into my dream home. The past few months have been full of model home tours, contract signing, walking lots, deciding on a floor plan, interior and exterior selections, mud walks, phew! Let me take a step back.
Last summer, my boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to start to invest in our future together and part of that included buying a home. We’ve both owned houses in the past and decided that this time we wanted to build something from the ground up. Our ultimate wish list included the following:
- Open floor plan
- 2 story foyer
- Master bedroom with ensuite bath
- Lots of closet space
- Gourmet kitchen with large island
- Fireplace
- Attached garage (for those northeast winters)
- Large lot (1 acre +)
- Family friendly neighborhood
After touring several home sites and speaking with various builders, we landed on a lot and floor plan that met everything on our list. Below is the first floor of our new casa.
With our builder, you had the ability to upgrade a few layout options. We decided to really pick what we wanted here since selections would be harder to add in the future. Upgrades to chose for the floor plan included:
- Tray ceiling in the dining room and living room
- Adding a 3rd car garage
- Placing a fireplace in the family room
- Â Adding a laundry tub to laundry room
- Removing the knee wall between the kitchen nook and family room
- Adding two additional windows to family room back wall (5 windows total)
- Lengthening the windows on family room back wall
Let’s go upstairs!
Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. We also made a few upgrades to this level:
- Added a bathroom to bedroom #4 creating a “princess suite”
- Selected tray ceiling in owner’s suite
- Removed owner’s bath tub deck and replaced with a free standing tub
Soooo many more details to share, but for now I’m headed over to Pinterest for decor inspiration 🙂 In the meantime, here’s a teaser of our Kohler tub to hold you over ’til the next post (swoon)…
